Mengi...

Mengi is a dog in our campus. He is cute and sweet. But also very needy and clingy. And as one of my friends said "He has no integrity". He spends most of his time in the Women's Hostel which is the only place where he is allowed because not many like him. But i like him a lot.And so does some of my floormates and they are the one's who feed him.
Mengi is so clingy and needy that he'll follow you anywhere. You just need to look at him and say something. It can be anything from "Go away dog" to "Yuck". You just need to acknowledge his presence and look into his beautiful eyes. You'll have him behind you wherever you go. "Where ever you go, I am there Gadha Jam" (Mallus will get the joke).
Like today for example, I stepped out of the hostel and saw him outside. He must know me by sight because he came running from far away when I was actually trying to avoid him. Its not a pretty sight, a dog following you around in campus. People will think that he is your dog and tag him as your responsibility. So he followed me to the Admin Block. And whenever my hand swung backwards, it would hit his wet nose. For a person like me who is used to having dogs around, it was ok. But to others it would be a chance to say "Yuck". He was still there when i came out of the building and followed me to the campus 'watering hole' Sagar. From there I went to the Library where after failed attempts to read an essay, I came out. Thankfully Mengi had gone by then. Must have found someone else he liked.
So now there is a notice up on the notice board saying that a dog has been biting people and that it is infected with rabies. It has apparently bitten other dogs also. So all on campus have been warned and is being asked to be extra careful. The Municipal Authorities are coming tomorrow to clear the campus of all dogs. So Mengi is going to be taken away and so are the other dogs. There are plenty of dogs on campus by the way. Its the hang out of all the street dogs.
I will miss Mengi. His cute face and eyes. He will be one of the good memories I will carry home with me when I leave.
